The Vulcan, by Elbit systems, is an advanced optic sensor for video surveillance in homeland security applications. The system is mounted onto vehicles, and provides a 360° view of the surroundings.
Our challenge was to design and develop an advanced system, integrating four cameras inside one enclosure, among them an infrared camera and a thermal camera. For each camera which photographs a different spectrum, the system demands field of view alignment in order to achieve high-end image recognition.
The final product conceals the complexity of the calibration system in a sleek industrial design. The internal camera chassis enables an ‘online’ calibration with fine-tuning capabilities. Motors provide the cameras full rotation in roll and yaw directions. Located in strategic observation posts, this is a highly functional, robust system.
